How do you check passenger window control wiring on a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab . Does the controls pop out or do you have to take door panel loose? Widow will roll down from driver side ,but passenger control will not take it down.

A: If it goes down from one switch, but not the other and goes back up on both I would have to recommend replacing the switch. It uses a double pole double throw switch to control which way the motor turns, and if one of those poles is broken and is staying in one direction, you'll have operation in one direction from one switch and in the other direction from both switches. The switch pack just pops out of the door panel from the top.

Q: What would the labor only cost be of installing an automatic transmission in a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500?
I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 that the automatic transmission went out on (lost reverse). I have a refurbished transmission to put in it, and am wondering what I should expect as a labor cost for a garage to do so.

A: You should be able to find someone to do it in their driveway for about $100-$150. Don't forget the cost of trans fluid. A garage should do it for about $300.

A: you can get a new one installed for around a 100 bucks,for that truck,it probably isn't possible to save the one that's on it,especially if it rusted off of it,at the worst you would have to pay about 150 for a new one,their not that expensive to get a new one on it,just go to muffler shop and all they will repair will be the muffler,good luck with it.

I've gotten everything off the old fuel pump, but the dang fuel line plug wont come off the fuel pump. It looks like it has a certain way to get it off but i dont know how. any help for my 1998 Dodge Ram Van 1500

A: i never replace just the pump in those,i always replace the whole assembly on them,if it does come off it may be crimped on so you may have a hard time getting it off,its not a good idea to just replace the pump on it,i replace those as a complete assembly,good luck.

A: The 2" should be enough as lifting the body causes all kinds of issues like steering column> Break lines> Hoses> Cables & A/C lines rad> Shifter adjustment>

A: Should be less then a hour labor. One other thing, if you are taking it to the dealer, try going to their body shop instead because the labor rate will be less then the service department

my 1998 Dodge Ram has started making a whining/whirring noise from the rearend recently. A mechanic who lives near me heard me drive by and told me it sounds to him like a bearing is going bad. If I am very mechanically inclined and have a good selection of shadetree mechanic tools, how hard/easy/impossible would it be for me to fix this problem myself? And what would I do to fix it for the least amount of money?

A: if it does turn out to be a rear differential bearing its about as cheap to buy a complete rear differential than it is to buy the parts and have them installed,i did one for a customer and he had about as much in to it as he could have bought a complete assembly for at a salvage yard.good luck with it.

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and need to replace my left front Wheel bearing. I am wondering if my truck would have the four wheel ABS or if i just need the standard wheel bearing?

A: some did and some didn't,you can look on the front axle and see if it has a wheel sensor on it or a wire coming off it or call a dealer and give them the vin number they can tell you in a second if it came with it or not,it should be easy to identify it if it has it,good luck.

A: that's the big old box that's located under the dash that runs almost across the hump on that ruck and removing it is a real job,you also have to discharge the air conditioning system to do this ,so best advice i can give you is purchase a repair manual on doing this one,they really do help out a lot on this job,and be prepared to spend about 6-8 hours to remove and replace it,good luck with it.

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2l and am wondering what viscosity of oil i should use for my next oil change. The climate here can be as cold as -25 to +25. I heard 5w30 or 10w30 which would be the best?

A: if its not using any oil go with a good thin oil like a 5-w-30 in it,this way the oil wont thicken up on you when its cold out,thicker oils have a tendency to make an engine turn over slower which can drain a good battery before the truck will start and run,good luck.

Q: About how much does it cost to repaint a 1998 Dodge Ram the same color?
Roughly estimated obviously. I want to repaint my truck because it was used as a work car by the guy I got it from and now I'm just going to use it as a regular teenage guy car. There are quite a few scratches (nothing huge) especially along the top edges of the bed. I do want a quality job done well. BTW I'm going to try buffing them out first but just in case.
