Q: Can I put a thicker oil in 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT ?
I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT and on the oil cap it says 5w30. I was wondering if it would hurt it any to put in 10w30 of royal purple. I have some mechanical knowledge and I would think its fine.. but I would just like to see if anyone knows exactly if it is ok or not? thanks
A: 5w30 is an energy savings oil, that's all
5w30 would flow well at low temperatures, because of the 5
10w-40 is not a good choice, too many additives, GM banned these from their engines for forming carbon deposits from the additives burning off
20w50 is a good choice for towing, giving better bearing protection
10w30 would be an excellent synthetic choice too!
double check your owner's manual, you will see it agrees with what I said

Doing my first oil change on my truck and would like to know whats the best oil of choice for other owners of 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7L. Money is not an option, im looking for a good oil for the best quality performance. Thanks for your time.
A: run mobil one in it, and use 5-w-30 weight in it as long as you can,most people go to a thicker oil around the 100 thousand mile mark on them,but as long as its not using any oil use the thinnest oil you can use in it,they run and perform a lot better with thinner oil in them,and the also run a lot cooler,good luck.
Q: how large of tire can I fit on my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
It's time for new tires. I want to go to a AT type of tire. I also am ditching the stock 20's for 17's, but want to know how big of tire I can go. The truck is still stock, no level kit, and no fender trim. Also would like some input on a good AT tire for the price. I'm looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler, or the Toyo Open Country. Any help is welcome.
A: I have a 2007 Ram 1500 and have 285/70 17 Goodyear MTRs. They measure out at 32 inches.
I have not had any clearance problems. I have used the BFG All-Terrains in the past and they work well in all conditions except deep wet snow.

A: on some of the trucks they didn't put the badge on them,i have seen a few without the badge or it could have fell off,they just glue on so time could have got it,or someone could have removed it,not so long ago there was a bunch of thieves that went around on some local car lots and was stealing badges off all cars including the ram trucks and then trying to sell them,good luck.
Q: 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Squeaking Noise from underneath?
We just bought a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 that started squeaking when we accelarate. It stops after we reach 20 mph? What could this be? I was told it might be the universal joint. It's also got a 4 inch body lift if that makes a difference.
It isn't 4x4
A: it could very well be the "u" joint. if the truck is 4x4 it could be a joint or bearing in the front end

A: open the tailgate, you'll see 2 screws, remove them, the outside is on a spring clip and you just have to pull on it

A: they don't work to good on the hemi engines ,there's been more problems from them than there was good,that engine was designed to run good for what it is and adding one to it wont help it,i have had to put these on for people then turn around and take them back off again,good luck.

A: Tough one. FN World Parts and Parts Voice only go up to 2003. You can get a few of them online at Moparts, and submit a request for anything else form the same page. All the other licensed OEM resellers use the same Chrysler-powered search engine, which shows almost everything in a diagram...but without part #s.
Not very helpful...but manufacturers hold those numbers pretty close to their vest. You can get the whole darn Factory Service Manual for $13.99 from Trade Bit...
In the end, the problem is that manufacturers have the legal right to hold onto part numbers for 7 years. Sometimes they let them go...more often, not.

A: the problem is in the radio itself, it will have to be taken out and looked at by a radio shop.
Q: 2005 Dodge Ram 1500- vibrating upon early accelerations.?
2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd - quad cab.
When the car is started up there and the gas is increased there is some bad vibrations. There is no other vibrating for the rest of the ride - only at the immediate beginning.
Any suggestions what this may be? fuel filter? fuel pump?
I just some more details (as my husband was driving it around) the vibration is more than just at the begining of the trip.
Any time he goes from an idle (even if at 55) when he hits the gas it starts vibrating.
not under warranty - it's over it's mileage.

When I am starting to accelerate it happens or when I am in reverse. It hasn't happened while actually driving after hitting a certain speed but when I slow down to make a turn or if somebody in front of me makes a turn and then I brake and when I start to accelerate it dies. Thanks!
A: It might be the egr valve sticking open, causing to lean a mixture.

I replaced a dirty air filtre and want to know how to reset the light. It has the Hemi motor
A: To reset the light you have to use a code reader. If you got your local auto store they will check your codes but wont erase them. I bought a code reader from wallmart for $60 and it has paid for itself already. I fixed many small problems with my autos... mostly sensors..... you can erase the codes with the code reader.
