Q: how do i replace a window on a 1998 ford ranger?
tonight, my truck was broken into. the thieves made off with some items of value. i have a good job and i can replace that. cash is a little tight, i need to replace the window. i plan to go to a junkyard or something and replace it myself. any advice on a process, like the tools i need etc will help.

A: first remove the widow crank handle im assuming its a non power window there is either a philiphs head screw or a allen headed screw holding it on, the the screws that hold the arm rest there should be two screws and i believe there philips head screws also, there may be a screw or two on the interior door trim pad remove them and start at the bottom of the interior trim pad and pull towards you there are plastic clips called fastners that hold the interior trim to the door they pull very very hard you wont break the pannel or the door so dont worrie but make sure you have all the screws out before trying to pull once they start coming they pull out suddenly and work your way to the top of the door and at the same time pull the door trim panel up and smack the trim panel where the window comes out of the door and the trim panel should pop off then work it out around the door handle and disconect what ever you have not dis connected to get interior trim panel out tof the way there will be plastic on the door remove the half of it from the middle down ( but leave in tact to put back ) and vacume out glass and get all of it shake the door do what ever but get it all including in the chanel runs theses are where the new glass sits in side to side there will be a 11mm bolt on both of them that needs to come out to loosen the chanel runs if the glass is bolted in roll up the broken window untill both nuts are visible on the bottom of the old window youll need to remove these nuts and remove the old glass bottom if its rivited your not goiing to get the new glass in unless you have a big daddy riviter and when these guys go in it sounds like the glass broke again when they get put in ,,,,, seriously then once al the glass is out and chanel runs are clean and loosened then slowly slide the glass bottom in the top of the door and install it putting everything back in its place and roll it up and down to make sure you did it right before assy the rest of the dooryou can email me and i can walk you through this via the phone emmy2jazz@yahoo.com

Q: (1998 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0) I recent bought this truck and I wanted to get some ideas of any cheap(Price)Mods?
modifcations I can do to improve the look or anything. Im planning to put some euro style headlights since the ones on it are all yellow from the sun. Help me out links anything on lifts tires wheels whatever anything that will make it look better! or even engine mods! (Its not the 4x4) XLT 3.0 Stepside

A: it all depends on the look you want to go for.....you can lift those trucks fairly cheap. $500 for the front, $30 for the back if you want but its not really nesessary, if you lift the front 3" it will only be 1" higher in the front than the back (the back is nigher normally, unless loaded) fiberglass fenders from glassworks. sterios are always a good start, and rims and tires. id stay away from the flowmasters...and stick with a straight through design like a magnaflow, or gibson. step up the tubing to 2.25 or 2.5 and call that good....as far as intake, dont do anything with goo or oil like a k&N, it messes up the MAF sensor, i had that problem when i first bought mine, but even though the 3.0 isnt the fastest motor in the world you will be happy, i have almost 200k on mine ('02) and it runs like its brand new.

Q: where can i get replacement cloth bench seats for 1998 ford ranger regular cab?

A: you can look online at like ebay or another online store if you want brand new ones but you are going to have to pay shipping. or you could try a junk yard. the seats are not hard to get out. all you have to do is unbolt them and pull them out. but the seats wont be brand new. personally that is what i would do b/c its going to be alot cheaper. little more work but definitely cheaper.

Q: 1998 Ford Ranger 4-wheel drive problem?
I own a 1998 Ford Ranger. Since i have owned it I have had trouble with the 4-wheel drive. Most of the time it wont work. There's nothing, like its dead. Some times it will work fine. But when its not working the 4WD high and 4WD low lights flash in the dash, all the time. I have had it to Ford and they cannot find a thing wrong with it. I have done everything i can think of. Can someone please tell me if they have had this problem of what it could be? Any help is greatly appreciated

A: It is more than likely the four wheel drive actuator OR a wiring problem going to the actuator itself. I've only been a certified mechanic for 2 years and I've only worked on one Ranger for a 4WD problem and it sounds like you have the same problem and I replaced the actuator motor and it worked. Like I said though you could have a wiring problem to the actuator motor.
