Q: What happens if you drive a 98 Honda automatic transmission that is low on oil for 3 weeks, how much damage?
I never had any complaints about my transmission until I had the transimission fluid changed a few weeks ago but it turned out the mechanic did not completely fill the transmission and when I had it checked after 3 weeks the new mechanic said he couldn't see any oil measured on the dip stick so it was pretty low. There are no leaks in the transmissio so it wasn't leaking. Can driving it an hour a day for three weeks ruin the transmission when it is that low? The transmission is a 98 Honda automatic with about 199,000 Km on it.
A: It could. You should be concerned if you notice any changes. Also, it depends on how low it was. In most transmissions, as long as some of the gears get lubricated, they can carry the oil up to others. Also, most cars have transmission alarm lights right next the the engine light on the instrument panel. Did any of these go off? If they did, you'd be wise to check your car and demand that the first mechanic pay for all the damages.
Q: Whats the best way to service a Honda automatic transmission that has 230,000 miles?
I just bought a 1989 Honda Accord LXI and the tranny is due for a service. I know I should not flush the fluid out because it could cause more problems later down the road. Does anybody know of additives or a certin ATF fluid that is ideal for really high milliage engines? There are no real problems with the tranny. It doesn't slip, shifts at the right intervals, downshifs well, no hesitation, and I would kind of like it to stay that way. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
A: If everything is working as it should and not causing you any problem... I would leave well enough alone and not do anything to it! I would drive it with extreme care as the Honda's with the most mileage on them are generally manual transmission vehicles. Where that 500,000 mile honda may have had several clutches installed, the auto transmission isn't so forgiving. With it's bands, clutch packs, pumps and pistons, they are most certainly going to fail SOMETIME. And, frankly, your mileage is high enough to leave you high and dry when you least expect it. It doesn't matter how many miles are on it, it's what's left in it that counts and in an automatic, you simply don't know.
My vehicles get their automatic trans fluid changed every 100,000 miles with new stuff and that stuff is generally the best I can buy. Keeping the worn material out of the trans keeps the remaining material operating with the least friction.
Some people put a big magnet on the pan somewhere to attract metal on the inside... this sounds like good advice to me! I would also have my homework done regarding what I would or will do should the transmission give out. Overhaul, junk yard, etc.
Good luck
Q: Is it better to dual sport my Honda XR400r or sell it and buy a street bike?
I have a 2002 Honda XR400r with low hours just sitting in my parents back yard. I don't ride dirt much anymore but still have this bike. I want to see if anyone has input for me. Its a great bike but i want to know if its worth it for me to do street legal conversion or just sell it and get a street bike. Please let me know as soon as possible! Im in Northern California if that makes a difference. Cheers!
A: i think you should sell it
making a dirt bike street legal i just a huge hassel, due to needing to put on turn signals, headlights, brake lights, etc
and CA emission laws are the worst out of any state, and you'd have a hard time getting it to pass that
just sell it and get a street bike
Q: how much does it cost to replace a O2 sensor in a 99 Honda Civic?
I got a quote of $400 with labor and tax. Nothing wrong with the computer or wiring. This seems extremely high to me but I live in NY. Please, only answer if you are a machanic or work for Honda.
A: Check out Oxygensenors.com. They have cheap prices.
Q: How do I get a good Honda credit card (if one exists)?
What does it offer in regard to Honda? Discounts on car parts? Is it worth getting?
I am asking because I think Honda makes the best cars and I've been unable to find any good Honda rewards through use of a credit card.
A: I think only ford and GM offer good rewards cards and they only offer rewards towards buying a new respective car. looks like you are out of luck. The best discounts you can get are that of shopping around at both dealers and independent repair shops to have your regular maintenance and repairs done. Your dealer will charge alot more per hour on labor and parts than a local independent but respected repair shop might. If you go to walmart for example to buy your air filters and wiper blades, and learn to change them yourself, you will save significantly in the long run... check out the below link to see what services your manufactereur recommends performed for what mileage.. That way you can take your car to a respected auto repair shop and you will know exactly what services you want performed at what mileage so no unnecessary work is performed and you are not overcharged. good luck! even honda dealerships can charge too much on auto repair.

Q: 94 Honda Civic 66000 miles. Can i drive home (250 m) with a cracked head gasket w/o engine damage?
I am in my last semester of college and recently my car has been acting up and began to overheat, lose coolant at a rapid pace, and the honda mechanic said that I have a cracked head gasket. They say that the repair costs will run from $1300-3600. Can i drive it home about 250 miles safely without the ngine giving up on me? I am planning on stopping every 60 miles or so to let the engine cool down and add more coolant. I know that if too much coolant gets into the engine it can cause engine damage. I have a reliable mechanic who can fix it at home and for cheap. Should I wait until i get home to get it fixed or fix it up at school? Thanks for the help.
A: have you looked into the price of getting it towed home? thats a long way to drive home if it is sucking coolant out of it.. its your call, i am not gonna tell you to drive it and then recieve hatemail the rest of my life cuz it blew up on ya.. whats the car worth? if its worth more than 1300-3600 bucks, i would not drive it.. less than that, go for it!!

Q: How much does it cost to get black interior installed in my 92 Honda Accord.?
I just bought the 92 Honda Accord and the whole car needs new interior including the interior on the door pannels and the trunk. I would like to know a good price to have this done.
A: You have two options. One. Find another interior in a parts car or at a wrecker/breaker and swap it out. A complete interior from a Pick A Part type wrecker will run you $500 - $1000 while a regular wrecker/breaker will run double that. You may be able to find a complete parts car for considerably less in your local Buy Sell or Craigslist.
The other option is to dye what you have. Both Color Plus and Leatherique (search online) have products available to redye your interior.
Either choice is pretty labour intensive and time consuming.
Q: What years did the Honda Accords have bad transmission?
I am look for a honda accord with a v6. I heard the transmissions were absolutely horrible. Does anyone know what years the honda accords had bad transmissions and if it was just automatic or manual as well.
A: auto only from 98-02 v6. 4 cylinders are affected to a smaller degree. 03-05 v6 may have problems as well.
